EOC MAKES SENIOR APPOINTMENTS FOR EUROPEAN GAMES

Rome, 12 August 2013. The European Olympic Committees (EOC) today announced two key appointments in connection with the staging of the inaugural European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 12-28 June 2015.
Simon Clegg, the former Chief Executive of the British Olympic Association, Ipswich Town Football Club and 1995 European Youth Olympic Festival has been appointed Senior European Games Consultant and Makis Asimakopoulos, the former Head of Sport at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and the 2011 Special Olympics, also in Athens, has been appointed as Sports Consultant.
Patrick Hickey, President of the European Olympic Committees, said:
“I am delighted we have secured the services of two such experienced and respected international sports professionals. I am convinced that both Simon and Makis together will make a major contribution to the success of our inaugural event whilst helping to build the brand for future editions.”
Spyros Capralos, Chairman of the EOCs 2015 European Games Coordination Commission and President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, said:
“Simon Clegg and Makis Asimakopoulos are the best appointments we could have made, both bring considerable experience and skills to this exciting project that will see the best athletes from the 49 European National Olympic Committees compete across 18 different sports.”    
Simon Clegg said:
“I am delighted to have been given this exciting opportunity to help deliver a successful event in 2015 whilst helping to create a dynamic brand for future European Games. I look forward to working with the Organising Committee in Baku and with the Minister for Youth and Sport, Azad Rahimov, to contribute to a memorable event for all 7000 participants.
Makis Asimakopoulos said:
“I very much look forward to working with the Organising Committees Sports Department and the 18 European Sports Federations to help deliver the highest level of competition possible in 2015.”
