European Olympic Committees (EOC) President Spyros Capralos and Secretary General Raffaele Pagnozzi met with a delegation from the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) in Rome on 8 November to discuss the ongoing collaboration between the organisations.

Muaythai was one of eight sports included as a medal sport for the first time at the European Games Krakow-Malopolska 2023 alongside padel, teqball, kickboxing, beach handball, rugby sevens, summer ski jumping and breaking.

IFMA Vice President Rafal Szlachta expressed their gratitude to the EOC for giving muaythai the chance to showcase their sport at the third edition of the European Games and EOC President Capralos reiterated the EOC’s commitment to innovation with the inclusion of new sports at future European Games.

President Capralos said: “It was a pleasure to welcome  Vice President Szlachta to Rome to discuss the EOC’s collaboration with the International Federation of Muaythai Associations and the success of the European Games. Muaythai’s inclusion in Poland was a clear success with the athletes and officials all speaking highly of their experience, while spectators at the Myslenice Arena enjoyed the high-class action on show.

“We look forward to continuing our work with the IFMA and remain committed to innovating and giving new sports the opportunity to showcase their potential on an international stage.”

IFMA Vice President Szlachta noted the positive impact that muaythai’s inclusion on the European Games sport programme has had on the sport and expressed his thanks to the EOC for the exposure it provided.

Vice President Szlachta said: “Throughout the event, muaythai garnered widespread attention and support, drawing a full audience both in the arena and in front of television screens. This success is a testament to the dedication and assistance provided by individuals within the EOC, contributing to the dynamic growth of muaythai not only globally but particularly in Europe.

“Looking ahead, we are eager to foster a strong and fruitful collaboration with the EOC, as our sport continues to evolve and capture the enthusiasm of fans worldwide. On behalf of the IFMA, I want to thank and express our sincere gratitude to President Capralos and the EOC for their collaboration.”
