EOC President Capralos elected to IOC Executive Board

EOC President Spyros Capralos has been elected to the IOC Executive Board (EB) as the member representing National Olympic Committees (NOCs).

President Capralos, an IOC Member since 2019, was unanimously elected during the 144th IOC Session in Costa Navarino, Greece, and will serve a four-year term from 2025 to 2029.

He will join newly elected IOC President Kirsty Coventry on the 15-person EB, which comes less than a month after he was re-elected for his second term as EOC President at the 54th EOC General Assembly in Frankfurt, Germany.

In addition to his election to the IOC Executive Board, President Capralos’ term as an IOC Member was extended by four years at the IOC Session.

He expressed his honour at being elected to this prestigious position.

President Capralos said: “I am humbled by the support of my fellow IOC Members in electing me to the IOC Executive Board. This is an honour I do not take lightly, and I will do my utmost to serve the interests of not just NOCs in Europe, but worldwide, just as ANOC President Robin Mitchell has done so diligently over the past eight years.

“Of course, I will also ensure that I represent the interests of the European Olympic Movement, and I look forward to working closely with President-elect Coventry and my fellow Executive Board members to continue advancing the ideals of Olympism. We must ensure that the Olympic Games remain a unifying force for nations, athletes, and communities around the world, and remain relevant to younger generations.”

Finland’s Emma Terho, recently elected to the EOC Executive Committee at the General Assembly in Frankfurt, was re-elected to the IOC Executive Board as the athletes’ representative. In addition, Kristin Kloster was re-elected and Romanian Octavian Morariu elected to the IOC Executive Board, while former Belgian NOC President Pierre-Olivier Beckers-Vieujant was elected IOC Vice President.
