EOC unveils names of 5 finalists for 2020 Best winter European young athlete

The EOC has announced the five finalists of the 2020 “Piotr Nurowski Prize” Best Winter European Young Athlete.

Again, this year girls are favoured with three nominations: Nordic Combined skier Lisa-Marie HIRNER (AUT), Luge athlete Jessica DEGENHARDT (GER) and Biathlete Linda ZINGERLE (ITA).

The list is concluded by two young boys: Luge athlete Gints BERZINS (LAT) and Freestyle Skier Matej SVANCER (CZE).

The elections and award ceremony were due to take place this May in Slovakia, but have been postponed to a later date due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

All five finalists will be awarded with a financial support for training and educational purposes. The winning athlete will receive an amount of €15,000, while the second and third-place finishers will secure €8,000 and €5,000 respectively. The fourth and fifth place athletes, meanwhile, both will receive €3,000.

Last year the Winter prize went to young talented Russian figure skater Alexandra Trusova, who continues to add successes to her young sport career.
