EOC UNVEILS NEW LOGO FOR PIOTR NUROWSKI ‘BEST EUROPEAN YOUNG ATHLETE’ AWARD

The Executive Committee (ExCo) of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) today unveiled an eye-catching new logo for the Piotr Nurowski Prize, awarded annually to the “Best European Young Athlete” from winter and summer sports.

EOC Secretary General Raffaele Pagnozzi presented the logo to the ExCo during its 8th meeting of 2020, held virtually in preparation of the upcoming EOC General Assembly on 27 November.

“We are very proud to finally share with you the new look for the Piotr Nurowski Prize, one that is fresh and aspirational, just like the young athletes it represents,” said Pagnozzi.

The logo features a five-pointed star that symbolizes the rising stars nominated for each award, with the main point coloured gold to signify the winner.

The logo also represents togetherness, friendship and partnership, as well as the power of sport and the limitless opportunities for young athletes, who can achieve whatever they set their minds to.

The Piotr Nurowski Prize for Best European Young Athlete was created in 2011 to remember the great man of Olympism Piotr Nurowski, and through his example and his memory encourage young athletes to pursue careers in sport, as well as inspire future generations to adopt healthy lifestyles based on Olympic values and principles.

Since 2016, two prizes have been awarded every year: one for summer sports and one for winter sports.

The winner is selected from five nominees by the 50 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of Europe and is presented with a trophy and scholarship to support their training. The four runners-up also receive financial support from the EOC.

The five finalists for the Winter Piotr Nurowski Prize 2020 to be awarded on 27 November are:

  • LISA HIRNER, Austria, Nordic Combined
  • MATEJ SVANCER, Czech Republic, Freestyle Skiing
  • JESSICA DEGENHARDT, Germany, Luge
  • LINDA ZINGERLE, Italy, Biathlon
  • GINTS BERZINS, Latvia, Luge

Each week in the lead up to next month’s EOC General Assembly, the EOC will feature one of the finalists on its social media channels and website. Be sure to check them out!
