Brussels, July 1, 2016

From today Slovakia takes over the helm of the Council of the EU. A series of image projections on the walls of the Bratislava Castle on the night of 30 June – 1 July, marked the handover of the Presidency of the EU Council from the Netherlands to Slovakia.

The display was co-organised by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bratislava, and sponsored by Philips Slovakia.

Slovakia gets EU rotating presidency for the first time since joining the European Union in 2004.

Over the next six months Slovakia wants to strengthen the EU’s economy, modernise and deepen the common market in the areas of energy and digital economy and work on a sustainable migration and asylum policy. In addition it will have to deal with the new situation in the wake of the UK referendum.
