European teams were rewarded for their success at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 during the ANOC Awards 2024 in Cascais, Portugal on 30 October.
Hosted following the first day of the ANOC General Assembly, European nations were successful in four of the five team categories, while the French National Olympic Committee (NOC) were crowned the Outstanding NOC at Paris 2024.
French NOC President David Lappartient collected the award after seeing the hosts enjoy their most successful Olympic Games for more than a century in front of raucous home crowds, winning 64 medals including 16 golds.
In the Female Team category, the Italian volleyball team’s memorable victory was recognised, after they went through the entire tournament without dropping a set to win the country’s first ever Olympic gold medal in the event.
Denmark’s dominant men’s handball team overcame Germany in the final to win the gold medal for the second time in three Olympic Games, having had to settle for the silver after losing to France in Tokyo 2020. They earned the Best Male Team award for their achievements.
Great Britain’s team sprint cycling team of Katy Marchant, Sophie Capewell and Emma Finucane broke the world record three times in Paris and were named the Best Female Team in an Individual Sport, while Austrian sailing duo Lara Vadlau and Lukas Mähr were crowned the Best Mixed Team in an Individual Sport for their mixed dinghy success.
