European Olympic Committees Executive Committee focuses on success of Krakow-Malopolska during fourth meeting of 2023

The European Olympic Committees (EOC) Executive Committee (ExCo) met for a fourth time this year on 23 July 2023 ahead of the 17th edition of the Summer European Youth Olympic Festival in Maribor.

President Spyros Capralos and the ExCo members welcomed Slovenia National Olympic Committee (NOC) President Franjo Bobinac and Secretary General Mr Blaz Perko and Ms Nataša Ritonija, Director of the EYOF, to the meeting to thank them for their support for the festival.

The meeting reflected on the successes of the European Games, both in a sporting sense and financially for the EOC, with President Capralos noting that the Games are now positioned as the premier multi-sport event in Europe. He thanked all at the EOC for their hard work in ensuring that the Games were a success.

The President also confirmed that a taskforce will be set up to consider the key learnings from the third edition of the Games, taking into consideration inputs from all stakeholders involved in the preparation and delivery of the event.

Chair of the EOC Coordination Commission for the European Games Hasan Arat noted that the athletes, NOCs and Poland were all happy with the delivery of the Games and emphasised the importance of that. He also focused on the technological advancements that helped tell the story of the Games through partnerships with the European Broadcasting Union and Atos.

The ExCo were provided updates on the summer EYOF taking place currently in Maribor and on potential hosts for the 2025 summer edition, on preparations for the 52nd EOC General Assembly in Istanbul as well reports from the EOC EU Office.
