Categories: EOC

The European National Olympic Committees (ENOCs) will gather in Skopje, North Macedonia on 10-11 June for the organisation’s annual General Assembly (GA). The meeting is being held on the 30th anniversary of the Olympic Committee of North Macedonia.

The GA will feature a number of key reports, including from EOC President Spyros Capralos, Secretary General Raffaele Pagnozzi, and Treasurer Peter Mennel. Additionally, a report will be provided on the European Games 2023 by Coordination Commission Chair and EOC Executive Committee (ExCo) member Hasan Arat, as well as the Organising Committee, which follows the signing of the Host City Region Contract last month.

Reports will be also be given on the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 and Milano Cortina 2026, and the Olympic Games Paris 2024. These will be followed by reports from the Chairs of the EOC’s Commissions, the EOC EU Office, the winter and summer European Youth Olympic Festivals, and the Games of the Small States of Europe. An update on the EOC Strategic Agenda 2030 will then be delivered by Chair of the Working Group and EOC ExCo member Djordje Visacki.

The European Olympic family will be also addressed by IOC President Thomas Bach, IOC Member and National Olympic Committee of Ukraine President Sergii Bubka, ANOC Secretary General and EOC ExCo member Gunilla Lindberg, and WADA Director Sebastien Gillot.

Ahead of the GA, EOC President Spyros Capralos said, “It will be a special honour to address the EOC General Assembly as President for the first time. Over the past year we have made excellent progress together, which is all the more impressive given the challenges we faced. In the past 12 months, we have seen Europe’s athletes perform brilliantly at both Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022, topping both medal tables.

“Meanwhile, the EOC has hosted a successful Winter EYOF in Vuokatti and we are in the final stages of preparation for the summer edition in Banska Bystrica in July. In addition to this, we have set a sustainable blueprint for the future of Europe’s premier sports event, after signing the Host City Region Contract for the European Games in Poland next year. As a family, we will continue to do everything we can to give our athletes the best possible platform for success.

“Off the field of play, we have seen how sport plays an integral role in society by promoting peace and unity, and I want to thank the NOCs of Europe for being role models during a very difficult time for our continent with the war in Ukraine. The General Assembly will give us the chance to reflect on a year of hard but very important work, and plan for more progress in the months and years ahead.”

Prior to the GA, there will be an EOC ExCo meeting in the North Macedonian capital on 9 June. On the evening of 10 June, the winner of the 2022 Winter Piotr Nurowski “Best European Young Athlete” Prize will be announced at a Gala Dinner.
