The 17th edition of the summer European Youth Olympic Festival saw streaming records broken across the week as the European Olympic Committees (EOC) continued to embrace new technologies.

Held in Maribor between 23 and 29 July, there were more than 1.1million views of the action on EOC TV. All 11 sport disciplines were shown live on EOC TV throughout the week with 190k unique viewers tuning in to watch some of the 147 hours of live streaming.

Digitally, the EYOF carried on the success of the European Games Krakow-Malopolska 2023 with the EOC mobile app downloaded by more than 12,500 users, 650 of whom were EYOF athletes.

Across the six days of competition, 2,500 personalised clips were produced for athletes, European Federations (EF) and National Olympic Committees (NOC) with 90% of clips downloaded daily and posted to social media channels.

On social media, the new strategy on the EOC social media accounts saw a large increase in people visiting and following, with 13,000 new visits across the games and the average Instagram post reaching 6,000 people.

During the event, there were more than 2,200 posts from NOCs and EFs which reached more than 30m accounts across social.

The 7th edition of the European Young Olympic Ambassador programme was the most successful so far and its social media account’s performance was notable. It had a reach of nearly 40,000 people and had 2,760 profile visits.

EOC Secretary General Raffaele Pagnozzi hailed the EYOF for its success online, as well as during the competitions.

The Secretary General said: “The EYOF continued the trend we set during the European Games as we reached new audiences by embracing new technology.

“The growth of our social media channels has been important and this helped direct more people to the live streaming and contributed to the record figures. People from across Europe tuned in to watch the best young athletes perform.

“Our highlight-clipping success has proven a huge success and I am sure that many other stakeholders in the Olympic Movement will follow the EOC’s innovative lead.”
