The EOC has unveiled the five finalists for the Piotr Nurowski “Best Winter European Young Athlete” Prize of 2021 (PNP).
Again, this year girls are favoured with four nominations: Croatian alpine skier Zrinka LJUTIC, British freestyle skier Kirsty MUIR, Belgian snowboarder Evy POPPE and Slovenian biathlete Lena REPINC. The list is concluded by one boy: Estonian freestyle skier Henry SILDARU, who is aiming to achieve the same result of his sister Kelly SILDARU, also a freestyle skier, who won the Winter PNP in 2017.
The elections and award ceremony will be held in Athens on 10 June 2021, within the framework of the 50th EOC General Assembly.
The winner will take home a EUR 15,000 training scholarship, the runner up will receive EUR 8,000, with EUR 5,000 going to the third-place finisher. The fourth- and fifth-placed athletes will both receive EUR 3,000.
The annual prize is awarded to young, up-and-coming athletes who, over the past years, have showcased not only outstanding sporting achievements, but also exceptional conduct on and off the field of play. It was created in memory of former President of the Polish Olympic Committee Piotr Nurowski who tragically died in 2010 in a plane crash.
Last year’s winter prize went to Italian biathlete Linda ZINGERLE, who continues to accumulate successes in her outstanding career.
