The International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG) has confirmed that Portugal and Kosovo will host two future events during its General Assembly (GA) in Heraklion, Crete on September 8th.
The GA confirmed that the cities of Portimao and Lagoa on Portugal’s south coast will host the fourth edition of the Mediterranean Beach Games. This will be the first time that the event has been hosted in Western Europe.
It was also decided that Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, will be the host city for the 2030 Mediterranean Games. Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti was in attendance as Pristina received 55 of the 66 votes cast for the 21st edition of the Games.
During the GA, the ICMG’s new Code of Ethics was adopted unanimously by the Executive Committee. It is the first time in the organisation’s 72-year history that they have had a Code of Ethics and they are in full compliance with the IOC guidelines.
European Olympic Committees and Hellenic Olympic Committee President Spyros Capralos and Greek Deputy Minister of Sports Yannis Vroutsis were both in attendance at the GA and ICMG President Davide Tizzano thanked them for their contribution in organising the third edition of the Beach Games.
President of the Mediterranean Sports Programme Commission Mohamed Zribi was honoured with the ICMG Order of Merit, while the new strategic partnership with the International Testing Agency for the Beach Games and the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto was hailed.
The Mediterranean Beach Games are taking pace in Heraklion between 9 and 16 September with 26 National Olympic Committees from Europe, Asia and Africa taking part.
