ICMG LAUNCH MEDITERRANEAN BEACH GAMES

Mersin (TUR), 7th November following a proposal made by president Amar Addadi, at a meeting held in the host city for XVII Mediterranean Games, which are due to take place on Turkey from the 20th to the 30th of July 2013, the International Committee for the Mediterranean Games decided to hold inaugural Mediterranean Beach Games in 2015, inviting candidatures as of this month.
And preparations for the XVII Mediterranean Games have gone ahead with the chefs de mission seminar, held in Mersin form the 17th to the 20th of last October and attended by technical delegates from 21 countries from the Mediterranean basin. The seminar centred on the games concept prepared by Mersin, matters concerning team participation, and technical and sports issues. The delegates also visited some venues under construction and the site for the future Mediterranean Village. Following the seminar, the ICMG heads had a meeting and then met the Organising Committee. The ICMG have, among other things, also decided to launch a new programme of financial support for the NOCs.
The sports on the Mersin programme are: athletics, badminton, bowling, canoe, kayak, rowing, football, cycling, gymnastics, weight lifting, wrestling, judo, karate, swimming, water polo, basketball, handball, volleyball, beach volley, boxing, fencing, riding, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, archery, clay pigeon shooting, water skiing and sailing. The programme also includes two Paralympics events: athletics and swimming.
The Mediterranean Games are held every four years, and the 24 ICMG member nations are:
Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, Spain, France, FYROM, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Montenegro, Morocco, Serbia, San Marino, Slovenia, the Principality of Monaco, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey.
