ICMG – PORTUGAL TO TARRAGONA MEDITERRANEAN GAMES?

Tarragona, April 4, 2016 – The International Committee of Mediterranean Games paid a visit to the Spanish Golden Riviera from March 30 to April 1, to check progress for the preparation of the 18th Mediterranean Games in 2017.

At the press conference that closed the tour, ICMG President Amar Addadi underlined his great satisfaction for the work done by the Organizing Committee, adding that “the Games will be a great success. “

Addadi was accompanied by the President of the Spanish Olympic Committee Alejandro Blanco, the general coordinator of Tarragona 2017 Javier Villamayor, NOC Secretary General and Deputy Executive Coordinator of Tarragona 2017 Victor Sanchez, and Marbel Negueruela Sports councillor for the Tarragona Municipality.

Addadi also announced with satisfaction that the ICMG received Portugal’s proposal for participation in the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona. Portugal’s candidature to enter the club of NOC members of the ICMG will be addressed in a few months at the next ICMG General Assembly. The ICMG currently comprises 28 countries around the Mediterranean, including 17 European.

For his part, Spanish NOC President Alejandro Blanco said he was pleased that a friendly country would participate in the Tarragona 2017 Games.

The visit of the ICMG in Tarragona coincided with the start of construction work for the Mediterranean Ring, the epicentre of the Games. The delegation also visited other Games facilities like the new Sant Jordi complex, the Shooting Club and the offices of the Tarragona 2017 organizing committee.
