IOC REWARDS BELGIAN ATHLETES AND MANAGERS

Brussels, 4 October 2014 the executive board of the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee (COIB) presented a series of awards for service to the Olympic Movement at a meeting on 29th September.
Guido De Bondt and Piet Moons were awarded the prestigious IOC Pierre de Coubertin Trophy for service to the Olympic Movement, whilst athletes who took part in the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter received the official insignia of the Olympic Games, with medallists at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing receiving a diploma. IOC Honorary President Jacques Rogge, made a point of attending so that he could deliver the awards personally.
During his 31-year career, Piet Moons (66) was secretary general of the Belgian Sports Development Committee and Marketing Director for the COIB. Currently, he is chairman of the Belgian Sports Technology Club.
Guido De Bondt (65) was active within the COIB for 38 years, including 22 years as its secretary general. He is still active within the EOC as a Member of the Baku 2015 European Games Coordination Commission, as the Association’s senior games advisor, and was instrumental in launching the European Youth Olympic Festival and making it a major continental sports event. He was also involved with the Youth Olympic Games for the IOC.
Earlier this year, Guido De Bondt received the IOC Olympic Order.
