IRELAND – SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR AWARDS 2015

Dublin, December 21, 2015 – Katie Taylor was presented with an award for her outstanding Boxing achievements at the Irish Times/Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Year awards for 2015 that took place at the Shelbourne Hotel on Friday.
Hugely popular in Ireland, Katie, 29, is credited with raising the profile of women’s boxing at home and abroad.

Regarded as the outstanding Irish athlete of her generation, she was the flag bearer for Ireland at the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony in London where she won an Olympic gold medal in the lightweight division.
Briege Corkery and Rena Buckley, the Cork GAA stars belonging to the The Gaelic Athletic Association, focused on promoting Gaelic games, were the joint winners of this year Awards.
Long distance runner Catherina McKiernan received the Outstanding Contribution to Women’s Sport 2015 Award.
