The Israeli Olympic Committee signed “The Gender Equality Charter” on occasion of the annual General Assembly held in Tel Aviv last 10 June.

The Charter is a guiding document addressed to all sports stakeholders in the State of Israel and aims at promoting gender equality in sports, as well as a sense of responsibility for shaping sport’s image as a lever for social change in the country.

Gilad Lustig and Yigal Carmi, respectively CEO and President of the NOC, together with Suzy Yogev, Chairwoman of the Gender Equality Committee, signed the convention. With the commitment to create, maintain, and ensure equal opportunities in sport, at all stages of training and participation, the NOC will put every effort to prevent any form of discrimination or inequality between men and women.

The document reports in its introduction a quote from Marisol Casado, Chair of the IOC Gender Equality Review Project, saying: “While recent years have seen improvements in gender equality in sport, we need more, and we need to do it quickly” and the Charter is firmly committed to do so.

The Charter also recalls that “Olympic sports and values belong to both women and men and professional-responsible sports practice is beneficial to both of them. Moreover, “gender equality in sports will promote and lead to greater gender equality in all spheres of life”.

The Olympic Committee of Israel called on all national entities responsible for the promotion of sports (sports unions, sport associations, sports education systems etc.) to act responsibly and transparently. All the legal, administrative, operational, educational, and technological infrastructures will dedicate to ensure the promotion and maintenance of egalitarian, high-quality female sports in Israel.
