On the 6th of February 2018, Turkish judoka Mihraç Akkuş received the prize money for having been awarded as the third Europe best young athlete. Akkuş, who was nominated by the Turkish Olympic Committee (TOC), received the third highest number of votes for the Piotr Nurowski Best Young Athlete Award in Zagreb during the EOC 46th General Assembly.

The prize money was delivered to the 18-year-old by NOC Vice President Türker Arslan and Secretary General Neşe Gündoğan during his visit with his coach Haldun Efemgil to the Turkish NOC.

The Turkish judoka has excelled in the past few years and appears to be a great prospect for the future. So far, he won the gold medal at the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) last year in Gyor (HUN), as well as European and World Cadets titles.

Next Piotr Nurowski prizegiving, the 3rd  Winter edition, will be held on occasion of the EOC Seminar in Belgrade (10-12 May). Within the end of February all European NOCs will receive the official calling to submit their candidacies.
