JÜRG STAHL ELECTED NEW PRESIDENT OF SWISS OLYMPIC

Swiss Olympic, the umbrella association for Swiss sport and the National Olympic Committee, will be chaired by Jürg Stahl for the next four years.

The delegates of the Swiss Olympic member federations elected Jürg Stahl as the new President at the 20th Assembly of the Parliament of sport last 25 November. Stahl, 48, won over competitors Augsburger and Landolt on first ballot, with 240 votes out of 444.

He will succeed Jörg Schild on 1 January 2017. After eleven years at the head of Swiss Olympic, Jörg Schild was not presented for re-election due to age limit. He took leave of the delegates to loud applause.

Following his election, the new President Jürg Stahl thanked the Swiss sports federations for their confidence and said: “I am very pleased with this election and the confidence of the federations. My work for Swiss sport begins now. Swiss sport can count on me. Together we will make things move a lot! ”

Jürg Stahl was put forward as President of Swiss Olympic by the Swiss Gymnastics Federation. He has headed the National Council since 1999 in the ranks of the UDC, and currently chairs the parliamentary Sports Group. Currently Vice President of the National Council, he is tipped for the presidency in 2017. He was elected to the Executive Board of Swiss Olympic in 2008. Jürg Stahl holds a chemist’s federal diploma and has been a member of the Group Management Mutuel Assurances SA since 2004.

In addition to the new President, the Assembly of the Sports Parliament of Swiss Olympic also elected the 18 members of the Executive Council.
