Belgium’s Sarah Chaâri has been displaying her talentsin more ways than one this year, making her a worthynominee for the 2023 Piotr Nurowski Prize.
At just 18 years of age, she won the -62kg category in taekwondo at the European Games 2023 and is currently ranked number one in the world rankings and number three in the Olympic rankings.
As well as enjoying wonderful success on the taekwondo mat, Sarah has also embarked on her medical studies. In July 2022 she passed the medical school entrance exam and ranked in the top 6% of candidates.
Sarah was nominated by the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee, who said: “Sarah has acted with humility, is very intelligent and has a strong work ethic, allowing her to pursue studies alongside her high-level athletic career. She has clearly defined her goals and the organisation of her days and her fighting style demonstrate her determination and perseverance.”
