MEET 2024 WINTER PIOTR NUROWSKI PRIZE FINALIST ZAK CARRICK-SMITH

Zak Carrick-Smith made history for Great Britain at the Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024, becoming his country’s first-ever Alpine skiing medallist at an Olympic event.

The son of four-time Olympian Emma Carrick-Anderson, the 16-year-old won gold medals in the Alpine combined and slalom and a silver in the giant slalom to complete a memorable time in the Republic of Korea.

Now 17, Carrick-Smith is dreaming of qualifying for an Olympic Winter Games and proving that Great Britain are able to compete at the elite level.

Carrick-Smith said: “It was such an amazing experience to be in Gangwon competing at the Youth Olympic Games knowing that we had all put in so much to get to this point in our career. Everyone was striving to be the best they could be whilst having so much fun and it was very special.

“It has always been my dream to make it to the Olympic Games and I work hard every day to reach this goal. I’ve always wanted to help GB become better known in our sport.”
