MESSAGE FROM EOC PRESIDENT – NOVEMBER

Categories: EOC

Dear Colleagues, Dear friends,

The end of the year may be fast approaching, but the hard work of the European Olympic Movement continued throughout November, with a number of major milestones reached.

The excitement for the European Games 2023 continues to build with the announcement of global stars amongst the qualified athletes, whilst highly productive meetings with the Organising Committee and partners signal what is set to be an unforgettable event in Poland in the coming year.

As part of our ambition to engage the next generation of athletes and sports fans with Europe’s premier multisport event, we were delighted to reach an agreement with the Global Esports Federation this month for a long-term strategic partnership that will include activation at the European Games.

I was privileged as always to join EOC Executive Committee members, as well as many other ENOC leaders in Lausanne for IOC Commission meetings week. The Olympic Solidarity Commission and the Public Affairs and Corporate Communications Commission that I am a part of, have a significant bearing on the Olympic Movement and I was delighted to contribute to their important discussions.

I have spoken to other representatives of the European Olympic family who participated in meetings in Lausanne, who have shared insightful feedback that will help drive sport forward on our continent. The ANOC Executive Committee will meet on 7 December, where myself and the EOC Secretary General will of course share our continent’s successes and challenges as we look to build a brighter sporting future with our friends from ANOC and the other Continental Associations.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our dear friend Sergii Bubka, who is the embodiment of the values we promote. Sergii stepped down as President of the Ukrainian Olympic Committee at the end of his term this month, after 17 years of success. He will continue to be a core part of our family, both as an IOC Member, Olympic legend, and great friend to us all. Thank you Sergii for your wisdom, your cooperation, and your steadfast promotion of the Olympic values in some very challenging times.

With EurOlympic regards,

Spyros Capralos

EOC President
