OLYMPIC SOLIDARITY BRIEFS ITS CONTINENTAL OFFICES

Categories: Misc.

Lausanne, 21 March 2017

The main aim of the meeting of the OS Continental Offices, organised by Olympic Solidarity at the ANOC HQ in Lausanne yesterday and today, is to illustrate the Plan for the XXXII Olympiad 2017-2020, and focus on certain key aspects of their tasks, including the impact of Agenda 2020 on the Olympic Solidarity programmes and the key role of good governance.

As part of their tasks the OS Continental Offices were asked to promote the new online IOC self-evaluation tool on good governance (in principle all NOCs should do their self-evaluations before the end of 2017).

All this will be reinforced through the 2017 Forums, where the importance of the financial control system will be reiterated, whilst targeted efforts will also be made at the level of the financial representative of each NOC as follow-up.

The agenda also included discussions on how to mentor weaker NOCs. Part of the approach will be to reinforce the Solidarity concept, and large, developed NOCs will be encouraged to share expertise with less developed NOCs.  Also, more funds will go to athletes and there will be special emphasis on Olympic values, again, not least in terms of good governance.
