PIOTR NUROWSKI PRIZE – CANDIDATURES OPEN FOR 2020 BEST YOUNG EUROPEAN ATHLETE!

The EOC has officially opened the candidature procedure for the 5th Winter Piotr Nurowski “Best Young European Athlete” Prize.

The deadline for the NOCs to submit a candidate is 16 March 2020.

This year, the selection procedure has been slightly modified, with the 50 NOCs of Europe nominating from the long list just 3 candidates instead of 5. The two other candidates will then be nominated by a panel of experts composed of the EOC President, the Vice-President, the Secretary General, the Treasurer, the Chair of the Athletes’ Commission and the Sport Director.

The short-list of the five finalists will be ranked by the European NOCs by vote at their Seminar in Samorin, Slovakia, next 15 May.

The final results will be unveiled during the Seminar’s Gala Dinner the same evening, with the winner taking home a € 15.000 training scholarship and those who make the second and third place €8,000 and €5,000 respectively, whilst the fourth and fifth will both receive €3,000.

The award also features a brand-new logo, which will be officially disclosed during the Seminar in Samorin.

The annual prize is awarded to young, up-and-coming athletes that over the past years have showcased not only outstanding sporting achievements, but also exceptional conduct on and off the field of play. It was created in memory of former President of the Polish Olympic Committee Piotr Nurowski who tragically died in 2010 in a plane crash.

Last year’s winter prize went to 14-year-old Russian figure skater Alexandra Trusova, who continues to add successes to her brilliant career.

The prize has been awarded to deserving summer athletes since 2010 while a winter edition has been in place since 2016.
