5 June 2017

For the 19th time, the Olympic Picnic reappeared in Warsaw and, in the opinion of many participants and organizers, it was a record. Beautiful weather, over a hundred Polish Olympic medallists, 30 sports, lots of competitions, winter accents in the middle of spring, and tens of thousands of people playing and spending Saturday 3 May doing sports.

The largest celebration of sport in Poland, the event was organised by the Polish Olympic Committee, in cooperation with the Office of the Capital City District Żoliborz Warsaw and the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, and once again met with a great reception from fans of a healthy, sporting lifestyle.

As every year, the list of medallists and Olympians present was impressive. Guests included Kepa Potocka, Tomasz Majewski, Andrzej Wroński, Robert Sycz, Wojciech Fortuna, Dariusz Goździak Adam Krzesiński, Marian Sypniewski, Iwona Marcinkiewicz, Konrad Niedźwiedzki, Ryszard Szurkowski and many other great Polish athletes, first among them seven time Olympic medallist – Ireną Szewińską. A great treat for autograph hunters, not to be missed!

Visitors were invited to try more than 30 sports and competitions in dozens of Olympic and non-Olympic disciplines. In view of next year’s PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, part of the picnic area was turned into a “Hello PyeongChang” winter zone with ski jump, ice rink, an amazing cross-country skiing track, training areas for alpine skiing and bobsleigh, and a games and activities zone for kids.

The most interesting stands, besieged by visitors every year, were the ones directly related to the Olympic Movement: Fair Play – full of competitions and games in the spirit of fair play, and Polish Olympic Hopes Zone. There were also stations with Olympic sports such as rock climbing and skateboarding (new Olympic events), badminton, boxing, gymnastics, canoe-kayak, athletics, archery, soccer, rugby, sledding, shooting, fencing, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, wrestling and sailing.
