European Olympic Committees President Spyros Capralos met with Republic of Korea President Yoon Suk Yeol during the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Gangwon 2024 on 19 January.

President Capralos is in Korea for the fourth edition of the Winter YOG, where 1,802 young winter athletes from across the globe are competing in 15 different disciplines between 19 January and 1 February.

That includes athletes from 44 different European NOCs and President Capralos shook hands with the Korean president as he attended the YOG, six years on from the Olympic Winter Games Pyeongchang 2018 at the same venues.

President Capralos said: “It was an honour to meet with the esteemed President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol in Gangwon at the Winter Youth Olympic Games.

“In 2018, we witnessed a successful Olympic Winter Games held here and many of the facilities that were used six years ago are part of this event, which is a clear sign of Olympic Agenda 2020+5 at work. The Republic of Korea are once again showcasing themselves as experienced hosts of world-class sporting events, true supporters of the Olympic Movement and are giving the future Olympians the best environments to perform.

“These Games are an important opportunity for the best young athletes from across the world to take part in a global multi-sport event, and many of the European athletes competed in last year’s Winter European Youth Olympic Festival in Friuli Venezia Giulia”.
