President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola visited the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Portugal on 1 September 2022.

Metsola took part in a panel about gender equality, inclusion and diversity featuring six Portuguese female Olympians: Patrícia Mamona (Athletics), Telma Monteiro (Judo), Lorene Bazolo (Athletics), Tamila Holub (Swimming), Maria Caetano (Equestrian) e Diana Gomes (Swimming), who is also President of the National Athletes’ Commission.

Metsola also met with representatives from the NOC of Portugal, including President José Manuel Constantino, Secretary General José Manuel Araújo, General Director João Paulo Almeida, Director of the Department of Studies and Projects Cristina Almeida and Athletes’ Commission President Diana Gomes.

“The choice of a sports organization in the busy agenda of the President of the European Parliament in Portugal was something that we really appreciated. We also warmly thank President Metsola for meeting our athletes, a gesture that shows a political and cultural sensitivity.”

The productive meeting concluded with the signing of the Book of Honour.
