ROMANIA – MIHAI COVALIU ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE NOC

The General Assembly of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR) has elected Mihai Covaliu, President COSR by 128 votes out of 198 .

Mihai Covaliu, Olympic champion in sabre at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and multiple medallist at World and European Championships, said he would do everything to bring Romanian sport in the world elite. “Personally I commit to undertake all efforts to persuade much-needed support from central and local administrative bodies in achieving our actions related to great sport”.
He added the word he ended his presentation speech -“Together ” – will be the key word on his agenda, in order for the Romanian sport to be respected again on the world scene thanks to the athletes results.

His opponent had been Gabriela Szabo, Olympic champion at the Olympics in Sydney, at 5000 m, also multiple Olympic medallist, world and European who gained 68 votes.

The Executive Committee also approved the proposal by the new president of COSR to appoint George Boroi as Secretary General, who said:” As the main task for me, coming from the world of military I know what it means execution, I know clearly that the Secretary general is the man who will implement the decisions of the General Assembly, the Executive Committee and, not least, will be a real support for the incumbent president.”

Two vice presidents were also elected Camelia Potec (151 votes) and Alexandru Dedu (150 votes).
