The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) keeps spirits up with “Train with Champions”, an initiative that allows citizens to benefit from online fitness sessions with some of the Russian Olympians.

Not only these virtual trainings are helping families, youngsters and children to keep fit and active during the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but also represent an opportunity to chat with the best country’s athletes and get advice on how to stay healthy and active in the current climate.

Training sessions are being led by several Olympic medallists, including synchronised swimmer Alla Shishkina, short track speed skater Semen Elistratov, artistic gymnast Maria Paseka, track cyclist Denis Dmitriev, speed skater Yekaterina Lobysheva, world champion figure skater Elizaveta Tuktamysheva.

The online classes are taking place over three weeks, with a different focus for each class. One session covers overall physical condition and is particularly focused on those involved in running, swimming, cycling and triathlon. A second session focuses on fitness and lifestyle and is designed for those who lead an active lifestyle and want to stay in shape at home. The third session is based on a set of exercises for general muscle tone and immunity for the whole family.

The Russian athletes also actively participated in various volunteering initiatives and live streaming, where they encouraged their fellow citizens to keep a positive attitude and stay fit.

Among other activities, the staff of the Russian Olympic Committee and the ROC Athletes’ Commission raised funds for charitable purposes in support of one Russian hospital and sports veterans were provided with financial aid in all regions of the Russian Federation.
