SPORT FOR ALL CONGRESS CALLS FOR CONCRETE MEASURES AGAINST PHYSICAL INACTIVITY

Helsinki, 21 June – the 13th World Sport for All Congress, which took place in Jyvaskyla (FIN) on 14-17 June, ended with a declaration that was unanimously adopted by the 586 participants from 92 countries, including representatives from the Olympic Movement, NGOs, researchers, governments and UN agencies.

The Congress, which was jointly organised by the Finnish NOC, the LIKES Research Centre and the University of Jyvaskyla, and which was held under the patronage of the IOC in collaboration with the World health organisation (WHO) and SportAccord/AGFIS, focused on possible measures, strategies and policies that can promote sport with all age groups.

The final document, presented by the Chair of the IOC Sport for All Commission, South African Sam Ramsamy, sums up current needs and trends in the field of Sport for All and recommends concrete action with which to counteract physical inactivity.

With the declaration, the participants intend addressing the sports movement, individuals, families, the health sector, schools and government authorities, in a word all those involved in health care.
