SWISS NOC AWARDS ECOSPORT PRIZE TO GREEN SPORTS EVENTS

Ittigen, 14th November through its ecosport.ch programme, on occasion of the Swiss sports forum in Lucerne, Swiss Olympic has rewarded a number of organisers of sports events for their exemplary commitment towards the environment and sustainable development, handing out prizes worth a total of 30 000 Swiss francs to six out of the 74 candidates from across Switzerland who had implementing over 400 measures in favour of the environment and sustainable development.
The winners embrace both major international events and regional ones throughout Switzerland, including the Lausanne 20k, the youth gymnastics festival of the Canton Bâle-Campagne, the Swisss championship for long-distance orienteering, the Vallée de Joux Triathlon, the Zurich Weltklasse and the 2012 Biel/Bienne X-DAYS, and convinced the jury thanks to their innovative ideas, consistency, and things such as 100% solar energy, innovative concepts for textiles, and their approach toward organic waste management, successfully showing how sporting events that respect the environment represent an added value for participants, spectators and partners.
The ecosport.ch jury included representatives from Swiss Olympic and the federal sports office (OFSPO), as well as the environment (OFEV), territorial development (ARE) and energy (OFEN) offices.
