THE 1st MEDITERRANEAN BEACH GAMES ARE COMING TO PESCARA

Pescara, August 18, 2015 – The Italian town on the Adriatic Sea, that successfully organized in 2009 the 16th Mediterranean Games will welcome in a few days the first edition of the Mediterranean Beach Games.

From August 28 to September 6, the athletes from the 24 countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea – including 17 from our continent: Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Spain, France, FYROM, Greece, Italy, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, San Marino, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey – will meet in Pescara to compete in the 11 sports on the program of the 1st Mediterranean Beach Games:
Aquathon, Canoe Ocean Racing,, Beach Handball, Finswimming, Rowing beach sprint, Water ski , Beach Soccer, Beach Tennis, Beach Volley, Open Water swimming and Beach Wrestling,

Following the decision taken on October 20, 2012 by the Mediterranean Games International Committee’s Executice Committee in Mersin, Turkey, to organize the Mediterranean Beach Games every 4 years, the town of Pescara was chosen as host city during the Assembly General held in Mersin, on June 18, 2013.

The first games are organized by the Italian Olympic Committee – CONI – in collaboration with the Municipality of Pescara and the Abruzzo Region and supported by many local partners.

The Organisers who intend to once again celebrate in Pescara sport and culture through this new event, illustrate on their official website – www.pescara2015.it – all participating countries, thus fostering a better knowledge and understanding of the ICMG member countries.

In anticipation to the 28th August Opening Ceremony, the International Beach Volleyball Cup were held on 14 and 15 August at the Stadio del Mare in Pescara as a test event for the 1st Mediterraen Beach Games. The French Yannick Salvetti and Jean-Baptiste Daguerre won the title.
