THE OLYMPIC COUNCIL OF IRELAND HAS A NEW GENERAL SECRETARY.

Categories: Misc.

Dublin, 9th September 2014 – the summer holidays probably distracted many of us… But the OCI General Assembly in mid August – apart from confirming Patrick Hickey president for another mandate – brought two significant changes to the management of the OCI with Dermot Sherlock and Peadar Casey stepping down as the honorary general secretary and honorary treasurer respectively, both after long spells.
Sherlock, former British and Irish Universities boxing champion, who had held his post since 1992, received great honours from the assembly, together with the special IOC award.
Casey, Ireland’s Olympic rowing team manager at Montreal 1976 and Moscow 1980 and Deputy Chef de Mission at Atlanta 1996 and Chef de Mission at Sydney 2000, had been treasurer since 1997.
Kevin Kilty a long time ICPSA (pigeon clay shooting) member and Performance Director for a number of years, was elected Honorary Treasurer.
Dermot Henihan, Ireland’s Chef de Mission at Beijing 2008 and a former manager of the country’s rowing team was elected general secretary. He also sits in the EOC CoCom for the Baku 2015 inaugural European Games.
Two good friends of Europe we shall very often see around, congratulations!
