TURKEY – ERZURUM WELCOMES SPORTS, OLYMPIC CULTURE AND EDUCATION PROJECT

Istanbul, January 14, 2016 – in Erzurum this week, the Turkish Olympic Committee is holding its interactive presentations for the Sports, Olympic Culture and Education Project (Oli) – a long-standing project, this year staged in the host city for the 2017 European Youth Olympic Festival.
The Sports, Olympic Culture and Education Project presentations are vital in terms of helping young generations acquire a sports culture early in life – the official NOC website states. The project is aimed at students in the fourth and fifth grades in elementary schools, and is carried out by the NOC’s Culture and Olympic Education Committee, with support from the Ministry of Education.
The project is the culmination of meticulous work undertaken by academics, child psychologists and committee members. Professional presenter and cherished mascot “Oli” interactively explains sports culture and Olympic Games as well as its philosophy, Fair Play, healthy eating habits and environmental awareness through various videos, cartoons, small competitions and colourful images.
Presentations are performed according to a specific plan, and programmed every semester. Hundreds of thousands of students from thousands of elementary schools have taken part in the events in many Turkish cities since February 17, 2006.
In Erzurum, Oli presentations will be made to 15 thousand students. Sport and regional government leaders attended the opening presentation of the programme in Necip Faz?l K?sakürek Cultural Center, among them Deputy Governor of Erzurum Ayhan Terzi, Provincial Director of National Education Yüksel Arslan, Dept. Head of Youth and Sports Services Güngör ?enses, President of Turkish Ice Skating Federation Dr. Dilek Okuyucu and TOC Executive Board member Bilal Porsun,
Top athletes and role models, weightlifting champions Naim Süleymano?lu and Gülbeti Akt?, told the students how they started doing sports, about their achievements, and how to start doing sports.
