The final day of competition at the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) Banská Bystrica 2022 ended with volunteers at the event marking an unforgettable week of sport by awarding the young stars of the girls and boys basketball events their medals.
France came out victorious in both competitions as they overcame the challenge of Lithuania and Spain in the boys and girls events. Germany took home the bronze medal in the boys event after defeating Slovenia, while Hungary added to their impressive medal haul by taking third place in the girls competition when they beat Belgium by double digits. Several volunteers were given the honour of awarding these young talents their medals, including Michal Babik who presented the medals to the basketball boys medallists along with Spyros Capralos and Dunja Sekulovic who presented the medals to the girls basketball medallists together with Anton Siekel.
President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) Spyros Capralos reiterated these thoughts in his Closing Ceremony remarks. “A big thanks to all the volunteers! Your commitment and passion was essential to the success of the EYOF, and this week would not have been possible without you,” he stated.
Executive Director of EYOF Banská Bystrica 2022 Peter Hamaj reserved special thanks to volunteers, as he explained, “without whom it would not be possible to organise an event of this scale.”
Exactly 1,032 volunteers helped at EYOF Banská Bystrica 2022, of which 425 were men and 607 were women. Their average age was 28-years-old, with the youngest volunteer being 16 and the oldest 77. There were 352 volunteers from Banská Bystrica and its surrounding regions.
