WADA – EOC MEDICAL OFFICER ATTENDS 4TH RADO CONFERENCE

Bangkok, January 28, 2016 – The 4th RADO Conference for the world’s Regional Anti-Doping Organisations was held at the Centara Grand at Centralworld in downtown Bangkok January 16-18, hosted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and supported by the Sports Authority of Thailand, Thailand NOC and OCA.

Over 70 participants from the various RADOs around the world attended the three-day conference, as well as delegates from government sports authorities and NOCs.

Dr Klaus Steinbach, EOC Chief Medical Officer and chair of the EOC Medical and Scientific Commission, represented the European Association, as he already did the last 2 times in Kuwait.
At the conference, Dr Steinbach met his friends from WADA – Director General David Howman, Director for Europe Frederic Donzé, Senior Director for Education & NADO/RADO Relations Rob Koehler, and Deputy Director for NADO/RADO Relations Tom May, as well as ANOCA Secretary General Thomas Sithole.
He also met and had discussions with representatives from the RADO of Eastern European (Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia and Montenegro), in particular colleagues from Armenia and Georgia, and also other representatives from 15 RADOs.
Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, HE Ms Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, opened the conference on Saturday, January 16. The participants then addressed the agenda, which included management planning sessions, training sessions, how to plan an effective board meeting, group and open discussions and a conference conclusion.

The objectives of the 4th RADO Conference were: to evaluate, in detail, the RADO programme, openly discuss issues, concerns and challenges related to the RADO programme, and develop a plan the further development and enhancement of the RADOs and anti-doping programmes worldwide.
Delegates representing 127 countries heard a conference summary and action plan from Rob Koehler.
An Official Declaration on the nine key objectives for 2016-2017 will be issued shortly and distributed to all regions and relevant stakeholders.
