XVI Mediterranean Games kick off in Pescara (ITA)

In the last few days, the Mediterranean Village has filled up with the flags of the athletes who will be competing in the 28 sports on the programme, from 26th June to 5th. Close on 6000 athletes and officials from 23 countries spread across three continents are coming together in Pescara, promoted Mediterranean capital ….
On the evening of Friday 26th June, IOC President Jacques Rogge and many Heads of State, together with many Olympic and sports personalities from the participating countries, will be at the Opening Ceremony, in the presence of Italian Prime Minister Hon. Silvio Berlusconi. Amongst the many personalities at the Adriatic Stadium, there will be Mario Pescante, the Italian Governments Commissioner Extraordinary for Pescara 2009, EOC President Patrick Hickey, CONI President Gianni Petrucci, and Raffaele Pagnozzi, the EOC and CONI Secretary General.
The Pescara Mediterranean Games look set to be quite an event, with more participants than ever before, but also for the level of the athletes and the immense job done by the organisers who, despite the earthquake that has ravaged the region, have doubled their efforts in order to offer the world some great sport and a moment of friendship in the name of “one sea, one dream”.
