ZSOLT BORKAI NEW PRESIDENT OF NOC OF HUNGARY

Budapest, 22 November at its General Assembly last Saturday, the Hungarian Olympic Committee elected Olympic Gymnastics champion Zsolt Borkai as their new President, his predecessor Pal Schmitt having been elected President of the Republic.

Zsolt Borkai, 45, was elected with 141 votes on 147. He won Pommel Horse gold at the Seoul Olympics in 1988, after having won the world title in this same discipline in Rotterdam the year before, where he also won bronze in Horizontal Bars. He has also been mayor of Gyor, the main city in the northwest of the country, since 2006.

At the same Assembly, Pal Schmitt was unanimously elected Honorary President of the NOC.
